PIER Startup Workshop: Prototyping
Make your ideas tangible and join us for our next PIER Startup Workshop “Prototyping” for early stage researchers (doctoral researchers and postdocs), taking place on 5 December 2025.
In the prototyping workshop, participants learn about and use various (digital) tools that enable them to create (digital) prototypes and thus make their projects and ideas tangible. This provides valuable information about what works and what can be improved in the projects. Prototypes are also important for presenting and testing projects in order to obtain feedback for the respective development stage. In this way, customer-centric products and services for the future that customers actually want to use can be developed over several iteration loops. There are a variety of different prototyping techniques and tools, the advantages and disadvantages of which are demonstrated. The aim is to familiarize participants with the basics of prototyping, with which they can build a first draft of their (digital) prototypes after generating an idea and to convey the potential of the various prototyping techniques. It is not necessary to bring your own project, but if you have one, please do!
Contents:
- Introduction to prototyping in general and to the most important techniques
- Case studies: Application of various prototyping techniques to sample cases
- Hands-on: Individual and (small) group work on an example for consolidation
