Which offers of PIER/PHGS have you already made use of?

So far, I joined the onboarding meeting with Stefanie Tepass and signed up for transferable skills trainings which include communicating science, coordination & management, career orientation and programming courses. In addition, I attended German language classes. I also received a PHGS travel award.

In which way did you benefit from the offers of PIER/PHGS?

I've had the opportunity to attend multiple PIER/PHGS courses, covering a wide range of topics such as German language, Python programming, academic writing, and good scientific practice. Each of these courses has had a significant impact on the development of both my soft and hard skills, ultimately leading to improved performance and productivity at work.

Can you describe in one or two sentences why you think the PIER/PHGS is a useful institution for doctoral students?

PHGS provides a diverse range of courses for doctoral students, including scientific communication, language courses, programming courses, and many others. This allows students to gain important skills outside of their research area that will help them in their academic and professional careers.

What is/are your favorite place/s in Hamburg (and why)?

I like Landungsbrücken the most. It is a great place to visit for its stunning views of the harbor and the Elbe River. From there, sometimes I take a ferry to enjoy a unique perspective of the city.

Can you describe in one or two sentences what you particularly like (most) about Hamburg and your life here?

Hamburg is a melting pot in which I can experience a wide range of cultural traditions, food, music, and art from around the world. It offers numerous museums, galleries, theaters, and music venues especially during summer.

Please finish the following sentence: I never regret to have come to Hamburg because…

… it has provided me with a unique and enriching experience. From the city's vibrant cultural scene and diverse population to its stunning architecture and lively neighborhoods, Hamburg has provided me with endless opportunities to explore, learn and grow.

Thank you very much, Mahdi, and all the best for your doctoral studies!
