PIER PhD Reception 2024

This year's PIER PhD Reception took place on 3 July in DESY's auditorium and canteen. About 90 doctoral students, their supervisors, friends, relatives, and staff from both DESY and Universität Hamburg attended the event to welcome all new doctoral candidates and to honor the doctoral graduates of the PIER Helmholtz Graduate School (PHGS)

Summer in the Science City

Science City Day 2024

On 1 June 2024, the first Science City Day took place. More than 15,000 people came to discover the new science district in the west of Hamburg. DESY, Universität Hamburg, and many further institutions on campus were there with a lot of activities, showcasing their top-level research. PIER and PIER PLUS were also present with an information stand.

We congratulate the four members of PHGS who have been selected for their remarkable contributions to their field of research during their doctoral studies.


How to get help - 2nd annual Mental Health event of DESY and UHH

On Tuesday, 13 February 2024 we hosted our 2nd annual Mental Health information event for Doctoral Researchers and Postdocs of DESY and University of Hamburg. During this 2-hour online event, participants were introduced to help facilities for mental health issues in both institutions and got inputs on the focus topic ‘Basics of Burnout’ from the NGO Dragonfly Mental Health. More than 50 young scientists learned about the contact opportunities in case of mental health issues.
